A Blood Pressure Monitor and SmartPhone App Combine to Offer You the Ultimate in Personal Health Data Tracking

1. Withings Blood Pressure Monitor and SmartPhone App

If you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch (who doesn’t) and are into having state-of-the-art technology then this is the most advanced blood pressure monitor on the market today.

Once you download the FREE app, you’ll be able to track, share and analyze your BP stats. You can even send them to your Doc to ensure he or she is kept in the loop with your health. What could be better? The future is clearly now.

Withings has developed their app to not only give you a visual graph of your values over time but also to coach you to ideal health (if you’re not). Combine all this with the conveniance of the internet and your iOS device and you have the most popular blood pressure monitor on the market.

Accurate and Affordable! Omron Blood Pressure Monitors are the Benchmark of the Industry

2. Omron BP785 10 Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor

Omron BP785 10 Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure MonitorOne of the newest and the 2nd most advanced BP monitor by Omron. The BP785 is clinically proven to give you blood pressure, heart rate and can even detect irregular heartbeats (also called arrhythmia).

When I bought a similar blood pressure monitor in June 2009 (beurer BM16) it cost me $165. It is amazing to see how supply and demand works…Because this one is better than mine and is less than half the price. Pretty crazy.

To get it to work all you need is 4 AA batteries (I’ve never had to change mine in nearly 3 years checking BP at least weekly). It is quite an advanced little machine.

Perfect For “Who has the best BP?” Competitions :)

3. Omron HEM-670IT Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with APS (Advanced Positioning Sensor) and Advanced Omron Health Management Software

Omron HEM-670IT Wrist Blood Pressure MonitorThe reason you many want to get a blood pressure monitor that detects from your wrist instead of your upper arm is ease of use and portability.

If you have high BP then quite possibly you will want to bring your monitor with you travelling or to the Squash Club or wherever you want.

This one comes with the ability for you to access Omron Health Management Software which allows you to view graphs and trends of your values over time. However, the software only works on PC and so I suggest if you’re looking for a little more 21st century techie stuff the Withings above is the best.

4. Omron HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with ComFit Cuff

Omron HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure MonitorThis is Omron’s juggernaut.

It has been around awhile and people love it. It has over 1,100 reviews on Amazon – with the vast majority 5 out of 5 star ratings. Number 2 on this list above is the updated version of this. It has some extra bells-and-whistles but this one will suffice for 90% of us.

It has a very simple and easy to navigate screen and is perfect for checking your blood pressure at home (in case you get “white-coat” hypertension where your BP shoots up in the Doc’s office but is fine at home).

If you like to keep things simple and like the proven workhorse of the “flash-whiz-bang” new model – get this one because it is the bestselling of all time.

5. Omron Bp652 7 Series Blood Pressure Wrist Unit

Omron Bp652 7 Series Blood Pressure Wrist UnitEven though I say get this if you don’t care about the graphs on computer, you still get the ability to store up to 200 blood pressure readings. So technically you could just pull up an Excel sheet, input your numbers manually and voila! you have a graph.

But like I said above the wrist units are perfect if you’re in need of convenience and portability. No stripping down to your undershirt to get a length of bicep (doesn’t work overtop of clothes) to test your BP. Just wrap it around your wrist and press start. Done!

I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for ways to simplify…and so, I think a wrist unit is a great option for blood pressure management.

Best 3 Upper Arm Automatic Blood Pressure Monitors→

Upper Arm: Auto

Wrap a Cuff Around Your Bicep and Take Your Blood Pressure With the Push of a Button

These blood pressure monitors use a cuff that wraps around your upper arm to sense your BP.

You need to know that the “Popular” section contains top-notch “Upper Arm: Auto” monitors, as well. In fact, my first pick here is also mentioned at #4 on the Popular page…

…So just because I only give these 3 here does not mean the Popular ones are popular for no reason (they’re popular cause they be awesome). I just thought you should know that all the BP monitors on this page are worthy of your consideration. I have just tried to classify them to make things as clear as possible in your mind… Hence breaking them up into most popular and style.

Simple & Effective

1. Omron HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with ComFit Cuff

Omron HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with ComFit CuffSo what the heck is a ComFit cuff you say? I’ll tell ya:

It’s a pre-formed cuff that you slip your arm through like a sock with a hole in it. It’s easier because usually you end up fumbling around trying to get the strap on properly with 1 hand. This one: just slip your arm through. Easy breezy.

In addition, you’re getting what Omron call IntelliSense to ensure the cuff inflates to proper pressure around your bicep – no matter what. Having this cuts back on false positive readings for hypertension and irregular heart beat.

Who Else Never Uses Advanced Features Anyways?

2. Omron Bp710 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor

Omron Bp710 Automatic Blood Pressure MonitorWith this blood pressure monitor you get 3 features:

  • Vitals: BP and Heart Rate at the touch of 1 button.
  • Irregular heart beat detector indicated by 1 icon on the screen – a heart with lightning bolt through.
  •  Ability to store 14 measurements.

So if that’s all you need… That’s all you get with this one. Too easy.

Panasonic Can Make More Than Just Awesome Televisions!

3. Panasonic EW3109W Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor

Panasonic EW3109W Upper Arm Blood Pressure MonitorAs you can see (from Popular page etc.) Omron absolutely dominates the blood pressure monitor niche. Thankfully, other companies are starting to push-in and provide some competition.

The Panasonic BP monitor is affordable, interesting looking and just works. It sports an impressive 4.5 out of 5 star rating on Amazon off more than 300 ratings.

It’s no surprise. With a memory of 90 readings, Digital Filter Technology and a large LCD display all for less than $50… A bargain I say. You like?

Wrist: Auto

Put One of These On Like a Watch, Press a Button and Learn Your Blood Pressure

Are these wrist type BP monitors accurate? In short: they can be. Quoting a hypertension specialist, “wrist blood pressure monitors can be accurate if used exactly as directed [...] Wrist blood pressure monitors are extremely sensitive to body position.”

There you have it… If you get one make sure to read the manual and use it as directed!

For Ultimate Ease of Use

1. Omron Bp652 7 Series Blood Pressure Wrist Unit

Omron Bp652 7 Series Blood Pressure Wrist UnitDo you want the easiest blood pressure on the market to use? If so, then I suggest this one. It was featured on the ‘Popular’ page as the 5th most popular…

…People love (4.5 / 5 rating off more than 220 customers) the slim portable design and the advanced averaging feature. Advanced averaging allows you to review an 8 week history of your blood pressure averages.

The advantage of the slim design is that when you put this on you don’t have to feel embarrassed about putting some massive medical contraption on at work or wherever. I’m not saying you would be self conscious of taking your BP but I believe some would be. And Omron also must have had this thought. Either way – it’s small and looks not much different than those big GPS watches you see these days.

For the Ultimate User Experience

2. Ozeri CardioTech Premium Series Digital Blood Pressure Monitor with Color Alert

Ozeri CardioTech Premium Series Digital Blood Pressure MonitorDo you get confused when you take your blood pressure what numbers are good and bad?

Then listen up.

This blood pressure monitor by Ozeri has color alert technology to indicate good, warning and danger (well, in my words). You’ll get a green screen if you’re all good. A orange screen if you have prehypertension. A red screen if you do indeed have hypertension.

This is especially good if you need to wear glasses to see up close words. You can just see the color and know how you’re doing. Priceless!

Ensures Accurate Body Position For BP Reading

3. Omron HEM-650 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with APS (Advanced Positioning Sensor)

Omron HEM 650 Wrist Blood Pressure MonitorThe Omron HEM-650 is the older model of the above Bp652.

The difference?

In short: this one has memory of 90 and the newer model above has 200. Since both have advanced averaging (to get your BP trend over time) the 200 data points will allow a longer trend graph.

However, this is the older model and as such is cheaper by about $10. The display looks quite similiar but there are notable differences…Just look at the images to find out for yourself.

Personally, I’d get the newer model. Just me though.

Manual

Don’t Trust Computers? Get a Manual Blood Pressure Monitor and Have Someone Take it for You

Here I am calling a manual blood pressure monitor one that you have to pump the inflation bulb. They can be either electronic with an LED display readout of your number… Or, manual and used with a stethoscope by a trained pro.

So if you want to do the inflation yourself but have not been trained how to use a stethoscope and sphygmomanometer – get the Omron HEM-432C (Number 1 below).

Save On Battery and Inflate the Cuff Yourself

1. Omron HEM-432C Manual Inflation Blood Pressure Monitor

Omron HEM-432C Manual Inflation Blood Pressure MonitorComing in as the number 1 manual electronic blood pressure monitor is the Omron HEM-432C. You will not be disappointed with the ability of the monitor to accurately take your BP at home without any doctors or pros around.

Once you wrap the cuff around your upper arm and make sure it is about level with your heart you start pumping the bulb. The pressure within the cuff will be displayed on the screen and so you know to stop inflating once the pressure reaches about 40 mmHg pressure about your normal systolic.

After that, you simply stop pumping and let the unit do its job. A few seconds later your blood pressure is displayed. Pretty neat-o, hey?

Ultimate Precision (If You Know What You’re Doing)

2. ADC PROSPHYG Proscope Aneroid Sphygmomanometer, Adult

ADC PROSPHYG Proscope Aneroid SphygmomanometerIf you know how to take your blood pressure with a non-electronic sphygmomanometer then this is the most trusted.

You’ll need a stethoscope to listen when the blood pushes through the cuff and be able to take note of that pressure on the manometer.

Exercise Physiologists and doctors still trust these more than the computer controlled ones so if you’re after ultimate precision get a manual sphygmomanometer.

All-In-One Kit

3. Prestige Sphygmomanometer and Stethoscope Kit With Carrying Case

Prestige Manual Blood Pressure Monitor KitsThe Prestige brand sphygmomanometer is praised for having a very comfortable (made of satin) and flexible cuff.

However, when compared to the above ADC version above people think this one has less than awesome hose connection fittings. Not bad. Just not as secure as the above.

Both have ratings of 4 stars out of 5 or more on Amazon and so rest easy knowing you’re getting a top-notch blood pressure monitor.
