Some Helpful Tidbits Extracted From Customer Reviews

Many reviewers expressed difficulty understanding the User’s Manual. They felt it was a direct translation from German to English without regards for possible ambiguity. I would say it is most likely a bi-lingual techie that has come along and done the translation. Most likely writing it for other “techies” to understand. What if you’re not a techie?

Unintuitive Menu Navigation

Again many reviewers (enough to mention but far from the majority) expressed that the watches menu navigation is unintuitive – at times having to press 10 different buttons to get to a simple display. The alarming thing is that even the people ranking it 4 and 5 stars said this! It’s a learning process. I find that with most electronics what seems unintuitive at first becomes very obvious after a short time. Do you?

The Exercise Timer

When you are exercising you probably need to know how long you have been doing so for, right? Well with the Sigma PC15 the exercise timer only runs when their is a live heart rate reading. So if the signal between your chest strap and the watch drops out for some reason then the exercise timer stops. Sigma designers have made it this way, I think,  to act as a fail safe for the people who stop exercising but forget to stop the timer. So they have made the watches software to think that no heart rate means you stopped exercising (ie. took off chest strap).

In fact, this would be a very thoughtful feature if it wasn’t for the seemingly excessive amount of people having troubles with the signal cutting out in the middle of their run or cycle.

Chest Strap Signal

With regards to the chest strap signal issue, S.Pickett “no_ghia” said he bought a new different brand chest strap and it connected up to the watch like a champ every time and straight away. So maybe some of the Sigma chest straps have issues.

Backlight Activation

To activate the backlight you press the 2 lower buttons on either side of the watch face at the same time.

Lap Times

You can get you time per lap but you CAN NOT get your average or peak heart rate per lap. You can get your average and peak heart rate for your overall workout but not for each individual lap or interval.

People Are Still Very Happy Though

Regardless of all this the watch stil received almost 80% 4 and 5 star review ratings. I think this speaks volumes for the overall satisfaction of the customers. Even though there were the “minor” issues mentioned above the price range of this watch is great for all the features included.
